CryoPen Fenay Bridge
What is CryoPen?
Crypotherapy has been used for many years. It is a highly successful, effective and safe procedure with a low risk of scars compared with other treatments available. Crypopen removes unsightly skin perfections.
The CryoPen™ emits a fine jet of nitrous oxide under high pressure, which allows the clinician to work with millimetre precision. This destroys the tissue by freezing the inter-cellular fluid, forming ice shards and crystals which rupture the membrane, thereby destroying the cell. That means there will be no collateral damage to healthy tissue. It’s so incredibly accurate and practical.
Cryopen can treat anything benign on the surface of the skin
How Does the CryoPen Work?
The Cryopen™ has millimetre precision. This allows for control of how deep the nitrous oxide penetrates and the circumference or border of the area treated.
What Can CryoPen Treat?
The Cryopen™ can treat anything benign on the surface of the skin such as:
- Warts
- Milia
- Skin Tags
- Verrucae
- Cherry Angiomas - little red dots
- Pigmentation/Sun spots/Liver spots - on the flat of the skin
Removing Skin Tags, Sun Spots, just some of the benefits of using CryoPen
How Long Does the Treatment Last?
The treatment may last from a few seconds up to 2 minutes so you will be in and out of the salon quickly. Although you will need a thorough consultation to manage your expectations and after care will need to be explained and a follow up repeat procedure may need to be conducted a few weeks later with some skin treatments.
How Many Treatments are Required?
Some treatments require only one procedure but others may need recurrent treatments a few weeks apart to eliminate surface skin lesions. A follow up appointment with your practitioner is advisable to ensure response to the treatment of the lesion that has been treated and to assess if a further treatment is required. Sometimes the lesion can reappear over a long period of time where a second or more treatment are required.
Does the Treatment Hurt?
CryoPen is not painful and is usually very well tolerated. A mild pressure can be experienced similar to the pressure of a ball point pen on the skin. The longer the freezing time the more discomfort may be felt. Some stinging may be experienced for a few minutes following treatment. Immediately following the treatment the area may become reddened and a scab may occur. Sometimes a blister can occur to the treated area. If a deeper longer freeze is required there may be some stinging for a little longer following the treatment which analgesia may be taken following the treatment if needed.
What Should I Expect After Treatment?
A few days after your treatment the area may scab do not pick the scab off as this may lead to scarring. The area may become red which is a natural response. This should resolve over a few weeks depending upon the size of area treated and age and condition of the skin. The area should then return to normal. There is a small chance that the area may scar and a change in skin colouring may occur in some skin types. It has been found that the leg area can take longer to heal.
Are There Any Side Effects?
Cryotherapy is considered as a safe low risk procedure. Following treatment sometimes pigmentation changes may occur at the area that has been treated which may become lighter or darker compared to the surrounding areas of the skin. These changes usually improve over time but may take several months in some darker skin types.
Hair follicles can become damaged and hair regrowth to some areas may not be renewed.
Minor damage to the surrounding tissue may occasionally occur to the area treated even though the cryopen is pointed accurately to the effected area to be treated. A small risk of minor spread from the freezing effect can cause minor damage and inflammation or a small blister to the surrounding tissue to ensure the whole lesion is treated. This should settle down over a few days.
Rarely the freezing can cause some irritation to some of the small nerves and lead to a small area of numbness, tingling or hypersensitivity. These symptoms should improve over time and can take up to several months to improve, but if you have any concerns please contact your practitioner.
Please note that whilst the Cryopen™ can remove all benign lesions on the surface of the skin, those more complex treatments should be carried out by suitably qualified personnel.
